Waiting Room

First time you left
I gathered broken words and
dimmed-down breath.

Sat silent in the waiting room
flooded with violet hours,
permanent sunset of your weaknesses.

This time I empty out bony poems
string out the rainbows
let the wind unpick the years.

My scattered heart’s home

Local scenes around Singapore that remind me of being home – sights and scents I remember as a child, words that root this place in my scattered heart.

My scattered heart leans into that
sliver of rainbow kueh
gooey sweet layers to be savoured
one colour at a time
but I knew at age 4
red was the best.

My threads stretch way back
to the dim market
where kopi and chit chat were adult
but I was allowed in,
a small bitter saucer
and long sad tales.

So much of me is pressed
tight into white walls
that stand no more,
home is now a taste,
a familiar voice
a memory of having dreamt.

We never touch

So close,
I can see your soul
ebbing and flowing
through the wires and light.

So connected,
we’re two stars
signing tales
4 billion years apart.

So careful,
the way trust
is threaded by words
for all to judge.

So crazy,
how we never touch
anymore, the earth,
warm hands, passing lives.

At some point, we’ll have to touch in order to trust.

Daily prompt – trust.

The midnight lark

Original artwork by me, inspired by my haiku

Midnight lark plucks stars
drops inky tears on rice sheets
My odes rush to end.

I don’t normally do haikus but found the Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge really fun as a writing and painting exercise so may do more in future! The words this were lark and rush.

Take back our rainbows

Original painting by me 🙂

Brace yourself for the even storm
Warm and rosy
Raging like a marching band in August
Lulling feet and black hunched shoulders into the fog
Stay hidden, ordinary
Dim the lights, settle.

What if we peel back the noise
Take back our rainbows
Dance like the whole world’s watching?

Rainbow along Orchard Road, Singapore

Inspired by magical, sudden rainbows, sweet storms, painting magic faces (while referencing the ridiculously lovely 수지  Suzy – can you tell?!) and today’s Daily Prompt Breakthrough.
